I feel like I should preface this review by saying that it has been many years since I have read any poetry. And, although I have reviewed nearly a hundred books over the course of my life, this is my first time reviewing works of poetry. 

King’s poetry chapbook was an easy reading reintroduction into the genre. Living Small contains poems on topics ranging from happiness to public transportation working in temporary jobs. 

In many of the poems, King gives readers a glimpse into the life of someone living in poverty. The style of the poems is simple and the observations aren’t especially deep yet the writing still manages to be insightful.

I liked the juxtaposition of King’s snappy flow against the bleak and sometimes monotonous subject matter.

My favorite poems were the first “Happiness” poem in the book and “It Seems.” I appreciated the messages in each of these poems.
