★★★★☆

Jason and Lucinda Bennett have a quiet, suburban life with their two children, Allison and Ethan. Everything changes one night when Jason is driving his family home from Allison’s field hockey game, and the car is suddenly and inexplicably chased.
The carjacking ends violently, and the Bennetts have to make a split-second decision to enter a federal witness program, leaving family, friends, and all but a few possessions behind.
This book is tragic and thrilling with a distinct turning point and lots of unexpected elements. When you think you’ve gotten to the turning point – keep reading!
Jason’s evolution as a character was one of my favorite parts of the story. It was compelling to see him work through who he can trust, deal with his emotions, and act more boldly on behalf of his family.
What Happened to the Bennetts has everything you want in a family-based thriller – action, drama, and characters you come to care about. Even though the book was nearly 500 pages, it moves swiftly and never drags.
This was my first read by Lisa Scottoline and I picked a good one of hers to start with. I’m looking forward to reading more of her works!
This book sound like one that I would really enjoy, so it’s going on my TBR. Thanks for the review.
