★★★★☆ We Were Liars is a quick read about a wealthy family that spends summers on Beechwood Island, a private island near Martha’s Vineyard. I enjoyed this one while on vacation on an East Coach coastal island, which added a unique element to my reading experience.

Bossypants by Tina Fey
★★★☆☆ Tina Fey is a major celebrity in our house - mostly because she’s one of the most famous people to attend. Given how much I’ve heard about comedian Tina Fey over the years, I was excited to listen to her memoir, especially since everyone kept describing it as hilarious and laugh-out-loud funny.
The Wife Upstairs
★★★★☆ I’ve been on an escapist thriller reading spree lately. With their Dateline-inspired storylines, I haven’t been able to get enough of creepy, relationship-gone-wrong novels this summer.
What Happened to the Bennetts by Lisa Scottoline
★★★★☆ Jason and Lucinda Bennett have a quiet, suburban life with their two children, Allison and Ethan. Everything changes one night when Jason is driving his family home from Allison’s field hockey game, and the car is suddenly and inexplicably chased.
The Perfect Ruin by Shanora Williams
★★☆☆☆ I downloaded this book from Libby during a recent trip because it was immediately available, and the tropical image on the cover gave me vacation vibes. It turns out that the palm tree and the colors on the cover were the best part of this book.
Effortless by Greg McKeown
★★★☆☆ I listened to McKeown’s book Essentialism and it was a game changer for me. I wanted more of his wisdom on how to simplify my life and get more with less effort. Unfortunately, Effortless: Make it Easier to Do What Matters Most wasn’t as revolutionary as Essentialism.
Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life by Henry Cloud and John Townsend
★★★☆☆ Boundaries are a critical component of a happy, healthy life. With this in mind, I sought this book out to see if there were areas where my boundaries needed a tune-up. I was not expecting the book to rely so heavily on the Bible and Christianity.
Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing by Matthew Perry
★★★★☆ I am a huge Friends fan. I loved the show so much that I somehow managed to turn it into the subject of my undergraduate research project in college. The sarcastic Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry, was my favorite character on the show.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
★★★★★ The Fault in Our Stars is a beautifully told story of the love that develops between two teenagers who meet during a cancer support group. The story, which is both funny and sad, is told from the point of view of Hazel Grace Lancaster.
The Family Game by Catherine Steadman
★★★☆☆ Novelist Harriet “Harry” Reed has just gotten engaged to the handsome, charming Edward Holbeck. As the holidays and a major manuscript deadline approach, Harriet braces herself to meet Edward’s estranged family for the first time while keeping her career on track.
